After nearly 7 consecutive years living abroad, I've learned what works and what doesn't work when taking giant leaps into the unknown world of a foreign county.
I'm here to breakdown some of those barriers you feel stopping yourself from pursing your dreams. Whether they be mental, emotional, logistical or cultural, I've faced them. I've felt those roadblocks but have figured out a way to navigate around or more often than that, straight through them.
I prefer to travel slowly and feel a connection with a place instead of rushing my way through on a strict itinerary. I love finding my home in countries around the world, whether it be something for 3 months or 3 years.
My expertise lies in finding jobs abroad. I started out by teaching English with the Peace Corps in Ecuador and now, fast-forward, I'm across the world in Vietnam. Admittedly I have the most experience teaching English (Ecuador, Korea, Vietnam and online with VIPKID) but have also been a tour guide (San Blas Islands), a stewardess on a yacht (South of France), dabbled with Workaway (Peru & Panama) and now I work completely online.
Working locally while abroad has allowed me to peak into the culture, pick up some of the local language and see a side that many travelers don't get to. It's given me a chance to familiarize myself with cultures around the world, allowing me to realize the vast differences that divide us but also similarities that unite us.
Each year abroad only grows my curiosity, instead of diminishing it. I find so much joy in sparking that sense of passion in people around the world to get outside of their comfort zone and exploring places near and far. There really is something for everyone in this vast world.
